Bifes com Batata Frita (Steak with French Fries)

Hi All!

I’ve been cooking and baking this past week, and just relaxing in between.  These next few weeks in July are going to be busy with lots of fun activities, but it’s nice to also enjoy staying at home and the most you do is work on your jigsaw puzzle and watch Netflix!  I did also take the time to make my Tia Gorette’s “Steak with French Fries,” which turned out really good!  My boyfriend pretty much inhaled all of it in one seating, and I always take that as a good sign. 🙂  Below is the recipe.  I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Yields: 2 servings

Ingredients:

2 garlic cloves, minced

1 cup white or red table wine

1 teaspoon red pepper flakes

1 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons pepper

3 tablespoons olive oil

2 pounds top sirloin steak, cut 3/4 to 1 inch thick

1/3 cup whole milk or half-and-half

2 potatoes, peeled and sliced to your liking

4 cups canola oil

Directions:

1) In a medium-sized bowl, mix together garlic, wine, red pepper flakes, salt and pepper, and 2 tablespoons olive oil.  Place steaks in the bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let marinate for 2-3 hours.  When steaks are ready to be cooked, add whole milk or half-and-half to the marinade.

2) In a large skillet, heat on high the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil until hot, but not smoking.  Add the steaks and sear for 1 minute on each side, and then reduce heat to medium. Cook to your liking.

3) In a frying pan or large pot, bring heat to high and add canola oil.  Season french fries with salt and pepper and add them to the oil.  It’s important to make sure that the oil is really hot when you add the fries. This allows them to cook faster and they won’t absorb so much of the oil.  Allow them to cook and crisp to your liking.

ENJOY!
